Expressionism

This stylistic term refers to works by artists of the first half of the twentieth century in which the expressive power of lines and pure, strong colours became more important than the motifs depicted. Many turned to drawing and printmaking techniques such as woodcutting, which allowed the intrinsic value of the creative medium to clearly emerge.
