About the workRound shapes nestle against angular ones as if in a dance and combine to form a colourful geometric structure. The Dutch artist Sophia Warburg lived and worked as a stylist in Paris from 1928. Ten years later she decided to take up painting. Her pictures reflect the influence of her teacher, the Belgian artist Georges Vantongerloo, who also created geometric abstract works. From 1941 she exhibited successfully under the male pseudonym Nicolaas Warb. Like many women artists of her time, she was not taken seriously because of her gender.
