About the workWhen this goblet was covered with coats of arms, the great era of lidded goblets at the banquet tables of the Central European high nobility was over. From around 1725 onwards, porcelain came to the fore on imposing sideboards. Independent crystal glass production began late in Saxony, but it quickly rose to the top. This lidded goblet represents the final monumental splendour of Baroque glass art, before more delicate glasses prevailed at the table around 1740. The coats of arms depicted refer to the marriages of the three daughters of Minister Hermann Werner von der Asseburg.
