About the workBernd and Hilla Becher’s oeuvre presents industrial buildings detached from their spatial context. Their photographs were always taken under the same conditions – from the same perspective, with a cloudy sky and shadowless light. This places the focus on the sculptural nature and specific aesthetics of the structures. Their arrangement in groups emphasises the series over the individual image and encourages comparative viewing. This new visual language influenced subsequent generations and led to the emergence of the Düsseldorf School of Photography.
