About the workAfter his first figurative sculptures, Norbert Kricke turned to abstract art in the 1950s. He experimented with steel rods and used them to form dynamic, expansive sculptures. The bent lines extend in different directions and convey a sense of movement and energy. Kricke broke away from traditional notions of sculpture, in which mass is established by volume. In 1964, he was appointed professor of sculpture at the Düsseldorf Art Academy, where he also served as rector from 1972 to 1981.
