About the workA plaster bell tower stands tall. Its opening invites viewers to enter; they become an active part of the sculpture by making the bell ring. This is an early work by Inge Mahn, realised a year before she graduated from Joseph Beuys’ class at the Düsseldorf Art Academy. Using simple materials, the artist recreated buildings from public space in white, reduced forms. Instead of being a stable structure, this tower is fragile and in danger of being destroyed when used.
