About the workWith a fan, ornamental bow and feather headdress, this unknown woman is dressed entirely according to contemporary fashions. The delicate, soft hues and the rendering of the sparkle in her eyes also correspond to the light and playful style of the time. Trained in Paris and Italy, French artist Antoine Pesne was a respected court artist under three kings in Prussia and was also involved in painting the Sanssouci Palace in Potsdam. He painted numerous portraits of the royal family and the court.
