About the workHuman and animal merge into one. In an intimate gesture, with her head resting on her knee, the woman snuggles up to the cat. Alexander Archipenko worked the figures out of a single block. Inspired by the Aztec sculptures he had seen in the Louvre in Paris, he created the same motif in bronze as early as 1910. The Ukrainian sculptor moved to Paris in 1908 and founded his own art school there four years later. This was followed by another in Berlin and two art schools in the USA, where he lived from 1923.
