About the workThese vessels are considered to be the first system crockery in the history of design. The pieces can be combined to save space and placed from the pantry directly on the dining table. Wilhelm Wagenfeld trained as a draughtsman, chaser and silversmith in Bremen, Hanau and at the Bauhaus in Weimar. He stayed in Weimar and took over the management of the metal workshop at the State Bauhaus School in 1928. After several years designing for the Schott glassworks in Jena, he became artistic director of the Vereinigte Lausitzer Glaswerke in Weißwasser in 1935.
