About the workThis “family portrait” shows no faces—or does it? The depiction of genitalia is a provocative response by the Belgium-based artist to the Catholic morality that characterises her native Poland. In their alienation, they are also an expression of role models and our prejudices towards each other. Marta Byrdziak engages with social issues in her artistic practice. In this work, she has moulded body parts with natural rubber and created wax models that she duplicates and expands upon. The result is fused and preserved in glass.
