About the workIn the seventeenth century, an example of this etching was traded for the then enormous sum of 100 guilders, which earned it the title of the “Hundred Guilder Print”. Indeed, the print by Rembrandt, who worked in Amsterdam, is of exceptional quality. Christ stands in the centre of the image, emanating a radiance that captivates those approaching him to ask for healing. The artist achieved this effect of light and shadow by using the dark colour in a variety of ways and, for example, placing sharply engraved lines next to unevenly executed strokes on the light paper.
