About the workAccording to the Bible, Adam and Eve were the first humans created by God. Their portraits had served as justification for the depiction of the naked human body since the sixteenth century. This pair of figures shows the interaction between the bodies, which is filled with erotic tension. The accompanying animals also refer to the temptations of sensual pleasure: the peacock was considered a symbol of vanity, while the dog stood for the baser urges of humanity.
