About the workTransparent objects seem to collect light, reflecting and refracting it. Willy Zielke made the material properties of glass the focus of his photographic exploration. This picture is part of a series of experiments with glass objects that Zielke first presented in 1929 at the Stuttgart Werkbund exhibition “Film und Foto” (Film and Photo). His transparent still lifes are characterised by the playful use of light and shadow. As a representative of the “Neues Sehen” (New Vision) movement, Zielke’s compositions changed the way we look at everyday glass items.
