About the workCaspar Scheuren was one of the founding members of the “Malkasten” artists’ association in Düsseldorf in 1848. He designed the programme poster for a masquerade with the theme of “Legends and History of the Rhine” in 1872. The pageant took place in the emperor’s hall at the municipal concert hall in front of stage scenery featuring the Rhine panorama. The sequence of the 19 main groups of the parade followed the course of the river with its landscapes and towns. At the bottom right of the print, a crier points to the event announcement with his baton and leans on the “Malkasten” coat of arms.
