About the workIn 1926, the city of Düsseldorf, the press and publishing houses encouraged many artists to immortalise the new architecture and atmosphere of the "GeSoLei" exhibition in pictures. The painter Walter Ophey documented the exhibition in a series of watercolours and drawings that reflect his personal impressions of the buildings, festivities and visitors in sketch-like snapshots. The works illustrate the extent to which Ophey was involved in this major modern event and how it inspired him artistically.
