About the workThe Italian glass artist Alfredo Barbini (1914–2007) is regarded as one of the important representatives of modern Murano glass. After training and working as a master glassmaker at various workshops on the island, he founded his own glassworks in 1946. Barbini expanded traditional techniques through a reduced formal language. His sculptural vessels and objects are characterized by his experimentation with unusual surfaces and transparency. In this work, he adopts the dynamic, organic-abstract forms of 1960s design.
