About the workThe two relief panels show scenes from the Passion of Jesus Christ and were probably part of a winged altar. Such carvings offered the possibility of depicting the biblical narrative in chronological images and served above all to inform the illiterate about the most important Christian beliefs. The carver of these two panels has not yet been clearly identified. It could be by the artist Hans Thoman from Memmingen, who is named after his main work in the Benedictine abbey church in Ottobeuren near Memmingen.
