About the work“Lead, kindly light, amidst the encircling gloom” – in a literal sense, this artist tackles the basic human desire for safe passage in a multi-layered manner. Through their green tint and reflections, the glass panes obscure what is happening, although here and there they reveal elements from German folk art and fairy tales like the porcelain child with a candle or a scene from “Hans in Luck”. The title of the work quotes a popular English hymn. The Canadian–British artist Stephen Cone Weeks lives and works in Düsseldorf.
