About the workGünther Uecker is known for his nail objects. In this work, too, numerous nails have been arranged in a circular formation that condenses towards the centre. Depending on the way the light falls, the nails cast delicate shadows on the canvas in different directions. This makes the object changeable and places it in direct connection with its surroundings. Together with Heinz Mack and Otto Piene, Uecker was a member of the Düsseldorf group ZERO, which began its artistic exploration of questions of perception in 1958.
