About the workEach canvas is a white window. Together, their four frames form a geometric grid. The fact that there is also a white room behind them is only evident because of the grey shadows. Slightly offset, they repeat the structure of the frames. As in reality, the world is rendered visible by light or its absence. Gerhard Richter completed his studies at the Düsseldorf Art Academy in 1964. He devoted several paintings to this window motif during a brief phase of artistic reorientation at the end of the 1960s.
