About the workThe man leaning on his walking stick is looking into the distance. The life-size portrait of Gert H. Wollheim as a traveller was painted by his friend, the Krefeld painter Heinrich Nauen in 1924. Wollheim left Düsseldorf for Berlin the following year. Nauen painted portraits of numerous companions from the Rhenish art scene. He taught at the Düsseldorf Art Academy from 1921 until he was suspended by the National Socialists in 1937 and retired early in 1939.
