on display, room G 04 About the workThis beer glass is believed to have been found in a cesspit in Mainz in 1979. However, it is atypical for this region and probably came from further east, in Thuringia, for example: fragments of similar glasses were unearthed during excavations at former production sites near Wingerode. The club shape appears to be a direct ancestor of today’s southern German wheat beer glasses, but there was a great variety of drinking glass shapes at the time.
