on display, room G 17 About the workThis work is actually mouth-blown. A glassmaker stood on a high scaffold and while he blew, assistants below used special flat tongs to pull the bubbles apart into their characteristic shape. Luciano Vistosi directed the team and lent a hand himself. In this way, he was able to utilise the millennia-old technique of glass blowing to create life-size sculptures. From 1952, Vistosi was a partner in the glassworks founded by his father, which he helped to make famous. In the 1960s, he turned to free artistic creation.
