About the workIn Tibetan Buddhism, White Tara is one of the female bodhisattvas, beings who strive for the highest knowledge. She uses her knowledge to help others on their way to paradise, so that they can escape the cycle of reincarnation. White Tara symbolises purity, illustrated by the lotus flowers in her hands, as well as longevity; she also offers protection against illness. Her seven eyes, represented by small pearls and emeralds in her crown – only one stone remains in this figure – signify the highest consciousness and the ability to recognise all suffering.
