About the workWith this high aerial perspective of the bustling crowd at a Madonna concert, the Düsseldorf photographer Andreas Gursky achieved both an abstraction and visual analysis of this pop cultural event. Gursky uses digital manipulation techniques to intervene in the composition of his images and rearrange them. In doing so, he explores questions of credibility and the significance of photography in the digital age. The wall-sized format of the work influences and changes the viewer’s perception of the scene: the smallest details become visible, but merge into the bigger picture at the same time.
