After the death of the artist, who lived in Düsseldorf from 1860 and was a professor at the art academy for many years, some of them entered the art school’s collection. Unfortunately, the purpose of this study is unknown. Von Gebhardt, a Protestant, specialised in biblical motifs, which he often transposed to the period in which the Christian denominations became divided in the sixteenth century.
