on display, room 010.2 About the workErnst te Peerdt was revered by young Düsseldorf artists in the 1910s as a forerunner of modernism, primarily because of his landscapes. However, he also depicted many other motifs. From around 1905 he turned to still lifes of fruit and vegetables. They reveal his delight in simple objects and in the composition of different shapes and surfaces, like the gnarled cucumbers and the shiny lemons and jars shown here. Numerous paintings by te Peerdt, including this work, were displayed at the opening of the newly built Kunstmuseum in the Ehrenhof in 1928.
