Blue and decolourized jug with circle ornaments, probably 10/11th century
Decolourized and blue glass, fused while hot, pincered(?) circle ornaments
(H x W x D)16,6 × 15,4 × 9,5 cm
About the workThe differently coloured halves of this jug must have been fused together while hot. This required the utmost precision and expertise and would have certainly only been practised by a few workshops – possibly even by only one. Analogous archaeological finds are widespread across Turkey, Syria and Iran. This demonstrates their great popularity, but provides little information about the region of manufacture.
