About the workOne of the highest aims of glass art is to produce completely colourless glass. Even mere traces of iron in the glass batch will leave behind a greenish discolouration. The quality of this early Persian bowl is therefore astonishing. The design of such vessels is closely related to repoussé works in silver and gold; they possibly held an almost equal status. However, little is known about the production and use of these bowls, especially since their origin has long been assumed to be about a hundred years too early.
