About the workIn this piece, the creation process is visible in the material. The German artist Jörg Zimmermann (*1940) blows glass through a metal grid that is itself encased in glass. The result is a regular honeycomb structure reminiscent of cellular tissue or air bubbles. This long-running series, which focuses on the manual production process, began as a response to the advent of fully automated glass production, which the Württemberg-born glass artist encountered around 1970 while working as a designer for the Hergiswil glassworks in Switzerland.
