About the workCommissioned by the ruler of Mantua, the Italian painter Andrea Mantegna worked about 20 years on a monumental painting series depicting Caesar's triumphal procession. The works were so famous, even at the time of their creation, that many visitors to the court came to see them. The publisher and printmaker Andrea Andreani produced woodcuts based on the series, which made Mantegna's pictures famous throughout Europe.
