About the workAs chronicled in the Bible, John the Seer received a vision of God’s plan for the destruction and restoration of the world. This print shows the magnificently dressed "Babylonian woman" who wants to seduce mankind into sin. The Nuremberg artist Albrecht Dürer created a sequence of images for a new edition of the text, known as the "Book of Revelation" or the "Apocalypse of John". They are distinguished by a fineness of line that was hitherto unprecedented in the medium of woodcut.
