About the workWhat at first glance appears to be a digital construction created with a computer program is in fact the result of a completely analogue process. In her studio, the American artist Barbara Kasten arranges geometric objects, mirrors, light and shadow. This gives rise to striking abstract compositions that play with our perception of space and scale. Trained in painting and sculpture, Kasten sometimes captures her sculptural arrangements in photographs. Her works recall the art of early twentieth-century Constructivism, whose visual language is characterized by clarity, geometry and abstraction.
