About the workThe German artist Rosalie Becher works with the technique of leaded glass, which is closely associated with sacred architecture. As early as the Middle Ages, pieces of glass were joined together using lead cames to create large window panels. In Becher’s work, these not only hold the transparent panes together but also become expressive, drawing-like lines. The artist draws inspiration from urban elements such as architectural façades and shop signs. In this work, the lead lines form the shape of a pair of scissors – a traditional symbol of the tailoring trade that can still be found in urban spaces today.
