About the workThe Milan-based artist Lilla Tabasso creates delicate floral arrangements from colored Murano glass rods. That these meticulously detailed objects are made of glass only becomes apparent upon closer inspection. In her process, the artist heats the glass and fuses rods of different colors to create new tonal variations. Striking is the brownish hue of the flowers, which lends the work a morbid element: as if already on the verge of withering, the blossoms droop their heads and leaves.

In her work, Tabasso addresses the transience of all life. As the material cools, not only does the form solidify—the inherently fleeting moment of decay is preserved as well.
