MIxed technique behind acrylic glass
Status
not on displayAt first glance, this work evokes photographic images of lunar craters – a reference also suggested by the title of the series. In fact, however, it is not a photograph but a reverse glass painting. The Düsseldorf-based artist Stefan Sehler applies transparent acrylic paint in a gestural manner to the reverse side of an acrylic glass panel. The addition of spray paint lends the surface a nebulous, condensed effect.
Throughout the working process, Sehler sees only the back of the picture support. It is only when the acrylic glass is turned over that the final result is revealed to him.
