About the workThis design by Dutch artist and academy professor Johan Thorn Prikker served as a template for the monumental mosaic "The Day". It shows the precise sequence of motifs in the design as well as the colour scheme of the later finished work. As part of the "GeSoLei" exhibition in 1926, Thorn Prikker was commissioned to create this wall piece and a second one for the two pavilions opposite each other where the Kunstpalast and the NRW-Forum now stand. The abstract geometric mosaices are related to each other; their titles "The Day" and "The Night" also refer to the geographical location of the two buildings, which are situated on a north-south axis.
