About the workCesar Klein often created still lifes, canal views, as well as city and street scenes. Italian motifs, in which architecture and plants predominate, are typical of his early works up through 1920. The Düsseldorf-trained artist also worked intensively with woodcuts, although only a few works have survived compared to the large number of oil paintings and gouaches. They are mostly found in private collections. Some motifs were published as illustrations in Herwarth Walden's avant-garde magazine "Der Sturm" (The Storm).
