Commercial for Videogate, 1982
Videoband, Color, U-Matic
About the workThere is no television without advertising: it annoys, amuses, structures the programme and arouses desires as well as emotions in viewers. As a broadcast medium, television generates non-stop visual streams that invite us to switch between different channels. The South Korean artist Nam June Paik made the resulting dynamics, rhythms and disorder of images his creative instrument. This work is a fun and ironic collage that shows what television advertising does to attract everyone’s attention.
