About the workAllen Jones is inspired by corsages and high-heeled shoes. In the 1960s, the British pop artist found inspiration on his doorstep in the fashion of Swinging London, particularly in the miniskirts and skin-tight clothing. The title "Pour les lèvres" (For the lips) refers to the red handkerchief shown on the left. Jones had received it from art collector and cosmetics entrepreneur Morton G. Neumann so that he could remove traces of lipstick. The artist complemented the handkerchief with red-painted lips and a lit cigarette.
