The two girls with the flower and plant motifs very much corresponded to the tastes of the time. However, Spatz turned this everyday scene into a biblical event: he exhibited the painting under the title “Praising Virgins (Psalm 100, Verse 2)”. This Bible verse begins with the words “Worship the Lord with gladness”. As a teacher, Spatz played an important role for many younger artists in Düsseldorf, whether at the art academy or in private lessons.
