About the workThis reinterpretation of the “Wassily” Bauhaus chair designed by Marcel Breuer in 1919 is full of ironic allusions. The designer Alessandro Mendini replaced its typical fabric seat and back with camouflage-coloured imitation leather. In 1978, he joined the Studio Alchimia group, which radically challenged functionalist design doctrines. For his “Redesign” series, Mendini created reworkings of modern design classics in which he emphasised their most striking features by altering their meanings through the addition of new elements.
