About the workBernard Schultze, who trained at the Düsseldorf Art Academy before the Second World War, founded the Quadriga artists’ group in 1952 together with Karl Otto Götz, Otto Greis and Heinz Kreutz. This group was part of Art Informel, a collective term for post-war abstract art in Europe. Schultze’s works establish a variety of references to plants and nature through their imaginative titles, forms and colours. The artist created the relief-like, raised surface of this picture by mixing paint with sand, glue and pumice powder and then applying it in varying thicknesses.
