About the workExplosions of colour blur with fine lines reminiscent of a secret sign language. Is it a view of a landscape marked by war? The Wehrmacht, the armed forces of Nazi Germany, called the zone in front of the main battle line "Vorfeld". Bernard Schultze returned traumatised from his military service in the Second World War. With the poetic titles, the artist provides clues for viewing his abstract pictorial worlds. Schultze studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy. In 1952, he co-founded the artists’ association "Quadriga", which was inspired by the international movement of abstract painting.
