About the workA furtive glimpse out of the window – a shadowy building façade emerges from the darkness. The Düsseldorf photographer Thomas Ruff created these night shots by combining night vision equipment and a camera; they allow the eye to see what would otherwise remain hidden. The use of technology originally from a military context changes the atmosphere of the everyday situations he captures. The charged aesthetic of the images and Ruff’s experimentation with photographic recording techniques challenge the viewer’s perception.
