About the workIn the series “Municipal Officials”, David Goldblatt documented and observed the political changes in South Africa ten years after the democratic change of government and the end of apartheid. The series presents officials and employees of the South African administrative apparatus in their workplaces. The clothing of the people portrayed and the objects surrounding them make their work and the institutional environment evident while simultaneously situating the photographs in a local context.
