on display, room 010.2 About the workIn this study, the Norwegian artist Anders Askevold closely observed the structure of stones, water and plants. The picture was probably realised during a journey he made from Düsseldorf. He began studying there in 1855 under his compatriot Hans Fredrik Gude. He moved away three years later, but returned to Düsseldorf with his family in 1878. Askevold painted Norwegian landscapes and animals. This work was acquired by the Düsseldorf Art Academy in the same year it was painted.
