About the workThe plate is made using the mosaic glass technique. This involves bundling different coloured, thick, short glass rods, fusing them in the furnace and pulling them out long. The resulting long rod is then cut into slices, laid out as a mosaic and fused to form a vessel. When this technique, already known in antiquity, was revived around the middle of the 19th century, many colours were used to create the impression of “a thousand flowers”. By limiting the colour palette, new effects could be achieved in the 20th century.
