About the workDo the notched decorations on this bowl represent something? Grains of cereal, perhaps? No comparable examples have been found to date. This type of relief, especially the double-disc motif under the base, corresponds to vessels that were made in Asia Minor during the Sassanian Empire. The empire had its cultural centre in Iran, but we now know that their highly sophisticated glass production was situated in Mesopotamia (Iraq) and probably also in the Caucasus (Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan).
