About the workAbove the entrance portal of the Kunstpalast appears the Latin word “Artibus” – a dedication to the building that can be translated as “to the arts”. The sculptor Carl Moritz Schreiner, originally from Constance, picked up on this again in 1926 in the relief above the entrance door. The three arts are embodied by three female figures, symbolizing painting, architecture and sculpture. The bull of Saint Luke, the Christian patron of painters, an implied building and a supine nude at their feet refer to the three genres.
